Saw you last night in Albuquerque New Mexico and it was a wonderful heartfelt evening on St Patrick’s Day. The music was played and sung with exquisite love of the music. I also have the love of the Irish and their music and it brought me to tears more then once!??

  2. Frank Krygowski on 26 February, 2017 at 5:41 pm

What a wonderful concert in Pittsburgh last night! I’m very happy to have your new book _Altan, The Tunes_ complete with five fresh autographs. I’m trying to tell friends about it, but I see no link to the book on your website! Perhaps I’m missing it?

  3. Frisco on 16 January, 2017 at 5:31 pm

My friends from Antwerp, Belgium took me to hear you in Zaandam, Netherland and I just want to say I have never been this impressed by a band before. Never heard such beauty before and please never stop because you are truly AMAZING!

  4. Jack Archer on 20 December, 2016 at 6:00 pm

I had the pleasure of seeing you play last March, in Portland, Oregon, for the first time in many years. It was like seeing old friends again. Truly. I first saw you perform in Seattle in about 1994. One of the things I came away with, besides a great musical experience, is how much you seemed to enjoy playing with each other and for your audience. That was undiminished, all those years later in Portland. That same joy in the music, and in performing, and it really communicates to the audience. Daithi, thank you for “A Heart Made of Glass.” It is a gem of an album. I bought a copy for my sister for Christmas. She attended the show with me in March, and enjoyed your songs. “I love your voice,” she said to you after the show. Now she’ll hear it in her home.

Our best to you all at Christmas. I hope we have an opportunity to see you play sometime in Northeast Ohio, where we’ve retired.

  5. Mai (and David and Jacob) on 12 September, 2016 at 4:20 am

We had such a great time at your show tonight in Beacon! You guys light up the room with your fun and enormous musical talent. How lucky were we to be in the audience tonight. Please come back to Beacon again!

We so enjoyed your concert in Asheville and again at Eddie’s Attic. After enjoying your music and coming to your concerts for nearly 20 years, I am so excited that we have planned to come to Ireland for your tour!

  10. L Pallatto on 21 March, 2016 at 4:23 pm

Last night in Berkeley’s Freight & Salvage enjoyed every song and story and all the Irish banter. You are generous and fun and we had the best time! Thank you so much!

  11. John McBain on 13 March, 2016 at 5:26 am

Hello from Vancouver BC! I saw you last year at the Centennial Theatre and you are my favourite Irish group. My nephew is being relocated to Belfast in May as a pilot for Sunwing
and they will be living in Templepatrick for about five months so I was planning a trip to
visit them when it would be convenient and wondered if you have any concerts there, Through your emails about Donegal I am excited to be going to the area and travel around
    your beautiful country.

  12. Jack Archer on 6 March, 2016 at 10:19 pm

I’ve been a fan of your music for a long time, and had the privilege of seeing you play in Seattle and Olympia, Washington. Great memories not only of the wonderful shows but of how nice the players were to audience members (including me) afterwards. We’ve missed you in Olympia for a while. Maybe my wife and I can get to Portland to see you later this month. We’ll start making plans. The new record sounds great. So many musicians on it we’ve enjoyed so much over the years.

Our best to each of you.

  13. Howard W. Morris on 4 March, 2016 at 4:23 pm

What a joy to hear you folks on a grey March evening at the Cedar Cultural Center in Minneapolis. I loved the music from your new album and your new accordionist is grand. (The rest of you are grand too.) I could have listened to the band until the strings on your instruments broke down. (Perhaps around 4 in the morning.) Please come back, I miss you already.

  14. Fiona Williams on 26 February, 2016 at 5:43 am

Really enjoyed your performance this evening. Was at your show in Letterkenny July 2015 while home on holidays. Thrilled to see you in our new home …So Proud of your achievements worldwide. I try in the US to really encourage my new friends and people with (dubious) Irish heritage to travel to Ireland but you make that job so much easier..except most people I meet here go on the southern tour of Ballybunion, Lahinch, Doonbeg , Ring of Kerry, Killarney, Blarney Castle…..well thankfully you are going to show them there is more to Ireland than that…..
Am thrilled with your Wild Altan Way. Hope it is a great success

  15. Nick Semple on 31 January, 2016 at 3:50 pm

It was a magic night of great music.
And thank you to Mairéad to spent some minutes talking with us.
    It was a real delight.

  18. Bill Bergan on 10 October, 2015 at 2:43 am

Have you any plans to return to the Sellersville Theater in Pennsylvania anytime soon. I’ve seen you there twice already and would like to see you again.

  19. Deborah Simpson on 21 September, 2015 at 10:50 am

It was a joy to be at your concert on Saturday at Rye Arts Festival – we never wanted it to end. Hearing the music come to life on stage was great, and we loved the joking around between the band (Ciaran Tourish is a hoot, with his deadpan (Rye?!) sense of humour!).

It was also lovely to be able to speak to Mairéad afterwards and she was as warm and friendly then as on stage. We came from Southampton, quite a distance, and were so glad we did. Thank you – and please come back to the South of England again.

  20. Francie on 15 September, 2015 at 8:06 pm

Many years ago, I was at a concert at UC Santa Barbara, CA and you took the stage. Listening I was amazed at how it bought me back to many evenings at my grandparents apartment in Jersey City. They were both from Donegal (Gweedore), but met in New York City. I have been a fan ever since! My husband and I had “going to Sligo” on our bucket list for many years; so when I saw that you were playing at this year’s festival. I booked the flight. So looking forward to seeing you perform live again…any in my ancestral backyard.

  21. Diana Maynard on 9 September, 2015 at 7:05 pm

Last night at Swallow Hill in Denver, Colorado, listening and watching Altan was a miracle happening for me! Absolutely grand!!!

  30. Mary McDonough on 19 March, 2015 at 6:40 am

My Husband Dan & I just returned from your St. Albert, Alberta Concert tonight. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, and the cancelled night before, (due to a water main break) gave us an excuse to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day two nights in a row! This past November we lost my 89 year old Mother, Nancy Collins, born outside Tulla, County Clare. She immigrated with my Father and two of my siblings to Edmonton, Alberta in 1956. I just wanted to express how Martin’s song “The Road Home” made my Heart ache and brought me instantly to tears. I can’t remember ever hearing such a Beautiful song, and I felt her Spirit taking “The Road Home”.

  33. Mac & Moe (Maureen) Smith on 3 March, 2015 at 2:53 am

I would encourage the purchase of the album “The Widening Gyre” and attending their current concert tour (2015) for the release of this album. Both are wonderful. My entire family enjoyed the concert and the music is still ringing in our heads after seeing them in both Boothbay Harbor, ME and Somerville, MA. If we could, we’d travel to the west coast and see them again during this tour!

Altan, a chairde – Bhí mé ag an gceolchoirm ag City Winery aréir, agus thaitin sé go mór liom. D’ardaigh sé mo chroí. Bhain mé sult as “There Is No Ash Will Burn” agus an t-amhrán grá breá faoin sliabh i nDún na nGall. Ádh mór oraibh leis an turas i Meiriceá. Le meas, Paul

  35. Tony Carlotto on 28 February, 2015 at 2:41 am

Just got Widening Gyre from Compass. One of the best albums I have purchased in a long time. Every track is fabulous!! Hard to find such good total packages anymore. Thank you!!!!!

  36. Ben Tiffany on 19 February, 2015 at 6:28 am

From the Ballyshannon Folk Festival in Donegal in 1988, to Dublin a few years later, and on to my home state of Colorado,Altan has long been my favorite Irish traditional band. Once I saw Mairead play her fiddle,I was hooked for life. We are honored to have you back in Colorado once again this spring, and I am absolutely thrilled that you brought Tim O’Brien,Alison Brown,Darol Anger and most especially Sam Bush to your latest album. To have such a combination of players making music together is beyond my wildest dreams.Thank you so much for the joy that you bring. Will see you soon!

  37. Grainne McCool on 6 February, 2015 at 11:48 pm

I’ve grown up with the music of Altan. Well, maybe I’ve matured with the music of Altan!! It was a real honour to recently speak with Mairead for a feature I wrote for Irish Music Magazine. Their new album The Widening Gyre is simply enthralling. And I’m very inspired by the fact that the album title is taken from a Yeats’ poem, ‘The Second Coming’ and also features ‘White BIrds’ (an early poem by Yeats)….just so very fitting in this the 150th anniversary of the greatest poet Ireland has ever known. An amazing Irish trad band and how fitting that they are from the land of Donegal…God’s very own country. I look forward to meeting these folk one day soon and engaging in some serious banter with them. Just listen to this new album….it’s just fab!

  38. Aideen Doherty on 4 February, 2015 at 1:54 pm

How lucky are we in Donegal to be blessed with ALTAN and their ability to represent us on a world stage –

  46. Liam O'Connor on 31 January, 2015 at 8:24 pm

The first Altan CD I bought was The Red Crow, and it is still a favorite. My wife, Trish, and I saw you at Denver’s Botanic Gardens in a lovely outdoor concert. I’ve fallen behind in purchasing your CD’s, I need to order your new one and the one previous.
I am sooo happy that you have included some of the Newgrange folks, especially Tim, Darol and Alison. I play their Christmas album all year long. I cannot wait to hear how Darol’s fiddle playing blends with Ciaran’s and Maighread’s
I cannot wait to see you all again, you have been companions of mine for many years.

    Thank you Altan

  52. pol & bern duffy on 28 July, 2014 at 12:03 am

Last night’s show at Sellersville was terrific. It was an extraordinarily well knit, highly motivated performance and among our most favourite Altan shows (we have a partiality, and will always have one, for a little show in Berwyn back in the day). Martin Tourish is a welcome addition to the band. He brought an energy and playfulness that helped take things to such a brilliant level. You are going to have to break down and pay him after all.
Apart from all that, honestly, it did our hearts good to see you all again. You seem happy and energized by the prospect of the work ahead for the new record. It seems like you are entering a new phase, step, direction, and Bern and I wish you the very best. Mairead, you looked beautiful, and your voice…. I remember well the first time I came to see you up in North Jersey and I was stunned. Martha had said you were something other and you still are. What happens when you and Ciaran lean into a tune is unmatched by any other two in any other discipline. Ciaran Curran anchors the rhythm as surredly as he always has. It looked last night that he was really rpoud of where you all were and where you were all headed. And we love Daithi. He is poet, foil, brilliant harmonist for all the wonderful angles and spins you generate.
May our roads cross often. You have and will always have a special hold on our hearts, dear island angel. You and your brothers in arms are the best f*cking band in the world. Miles Davis and King Crimson are almost in your league. Look after yourselves. Love, pol and bernie.

Hi, I have been listening to your performance this evening in Barakaldo, Basque Country (Spain). It was simply great! Some of the songs really touched me deeply. However, many of us would have appreciate a single reference to the fact that in the Basque Country we also have an endangered language that deserves to be preserved. Anyway, listening to you has been a real privilege

A few weeks ago our little son (2 3/4 years) came into the room. I happened to listen to the CD “another sky”. He was curiously looking towards the loudspeakers. I said: “isn’t that a beautiful song”? We listened to a few tracks and had a look at the booklet. The next day he demanded (and still does every now and again) “beautiful song listen want” and “singer see want”. The song? Green Grow the Rushes.
I’m looking forward to see your concert next week in Augsburg!

And Mairead for your wonderful, sometimes angellike singing.

Will be a pleasure to meet you again.

    Hi folks!
We came all the way from Cologne to Kreuztal to see and hear you. Great show thanks a lot! Every mile we spent was not wasted. We missed the gig in Ardara two years ago :-(. Kreuztal was the right compensation. Hope to see you again. — Kind regards, Thomas
